Materials

NON MAGNETIC MATERIAL

Titan Tools provide 4 grades of Non Magnetic material in our rental fleet ('15-15LC mod' - '15-15HS max' - 'SCF260' and 'SCF19'). With each grade there is an improvement in corrosion and mechanical properties. The lowest grade '15-15LC mod' has superior pitting resistance PRE of 29 compared with PRE of 17-21 of our competitor’s materials. '15-15HS max' has an improved PRE of 31-32 and higher yield strength of 140ksi min.

This material specification is used widely by the major service companies for their MWD/LWD collars and rotary steerable components. 'SCF 260' improves PRE to 35 with similar yield strength as '15-15HS' max.

'SCF19' is the recognised best grade Non Magnetic stainless material for corrosion resistance. Due to its high nickel content, this is the preferred material in severe conditions where brine with high concentration of chlorides, H2S exposure or presalt conditions are present.

Titan Tools can also manufacture and provide higher grades that are nickel based (over 40% nickel) such as '925' – '721' - '625 plus' that are used in the completions environment and meet NACE standards. If necessary these grades can also be used in drilling.

All of the above grades (except '15-15LC mod') are re-melted alloys from our exclusive supplier. ESR is used for NM stainless and VIM/VAR is used for nickel grades. This minimizes impurity in the metal making it very consistent.

Machine shops state that it is easier to machine our grades due to lack of inconsistencies or hard spots in the material. These same inconsistencies can cause premature failure when in the operational environment.

HARD FACING

Tungsten Carbide inserts have been used for a number of years as the standard gauge protection on bladed stabiliser type tools.

The limiting factor then becomes the matrix which mates the insert or brick to the mandrel, once damaged or excessively worn the matrix very quickly will lift and shed the insert.

Once the near gauge size element is lost the tool is ineffective as a stabilising component, the often expensive downhole tools within the remaining BHA see increased vibration and poor drilling dynamics, drill bit and overall BHA performance will suffer and the likely consequence is a premature pull out of hole.

To negate and avoid non productive time, all tools supplied by Titan Tools Services can incorporate Diamond enhanced finish, with either individually pelletised diamonds braised on to the exposed surfaces or Diamond domed inserts in to individually machined pockets. This negates the need for a ‘weak’ powder matrix and the only surface exposed to an abrasive interaction is the diamond which in itself has 25> times greater wear resistance than Tungsten Carbide. The gauge inserts are complimented across the leading and trailing edges which offer added protection and a dress ability across ledges and imperfections of the borehole left by the bit.

Our diamond enhanced Stab-On-Bit Subs have shown to give exemplary longevity in the most extreme conditions.

By delivering vastly increased gauge protection, maintaining well bore gauge, condition, BHA stability, reduced trip frequency, improved rate of penetration, reduced damage cost, this finish has proven to outperform all others.

Premium Rod (Similar to HF 5000)
Our proprietory matrix blend can enhance downhole run time performance while maintaining competitive pricing. Crushed Tungsten Carbide chips are fused in a Nickel base matrix via Oxy-Fuel welding. Hardfaced surfaces may be tailored to specific job applications by using various sizes and shapes of carbide chips.

Plasma Transfer Arc
Our hard-facing process has the option of using our proprietary weld powder developed by Carpenter Technology Corporation. These powders have exhibited superior wear resistance in a variety of applications. With the low heat input, PTA proves to be an excellent solution for hardfacing needs for both non-mag and steel applications.

Laser Cladding
With robotic accuracy and minimal heat input, our laser cladding offers the ability to hardface tools with complex geometries. Consistent particle distribution and extremely low base metal dilution are also advantages that make laser cladding ideal for non-mag products.

TSP Tiles (Similar to HF 6000)
The addition of Thermally Stable Polycrystalline (TSP) tiles can be made in various concentrations for the most aggressive formations using standard metal spray techniques. TSP tiles can also be filled using PTA with the addition of carbide in the matrix. This ability allows us to increase wear resistance in strategic locations while keeping cost to a minimum.

Carbide Tiles (Similar to HF 3000)
Our Carbide Tiles hold current “Quick-Tip” certifcations in multiple locations. Another variation of Carbide Tiles offered is to use PTA to fill the matrix between the tiles. Advantages include less heat input for non-mag base metal, faster production time, and the addition of carbide particle in the matrix material to reduce wash-out.

Superior Wear Inserts
This proprietary process uses superior wear inserts that are brazed into a matrix of high carbide PTA hardfacing. The PTA hardfacing provides outstanding wash resistance that ensures the inserts stay in place. Inserts may be placed flush or slightly raised above the PTA matrix and come in limitless geometries.

DIAMOND IMPREGNATED INSERT SPECIFICATIONS
  • The product is a ratio mix of 75% Tungsten Carbide and Nickel To 25% Diamond.
  • Diamond encapsulated within the insert is a synthetic diamond premium quality and is pelletized at One stone per pellet.
  • This equates to 30-40 mesh size in concentration C100 (FEPA standard).
  • The insert is manufactured by a Hipping Process (Hot iso static press & 100% capacity).
